Motiva Summer Internship Position: Mechanical Engineering Degree

Position Overview: Position Location: Motiva Refinery; Port Arthur, TX If you are currently enrolled as a student, Motiva's paid, assessed Internship Program enables you to get to know our company and immerse yourself in the oil and gas industry. It gives you day-to-day involvement in actual projects selected to match your interests and abilities. A supervisor and mentor will provide you with regular assessments and performance feedback throughout your internship. This is to ensure you get the most from your experience and help you decide if a potential career with Motiva is right for you.
Following completion of a successful internship, you have the potential to be offered a returning internship or full-time role that follows Motiva's Early Career Development Program dependent on your graduation date and business need.

Rotating Equipment: As a Rotating Equipment engineering intern, you'll be a member of an operating area production team that works within a cross a functional team to address both tactical and strategic reliability improvement items. This group is fascinated with defects, learning why they occur, developing or modifying practices that prevent future defects, and applying our learning's to similar equipment. Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing technical assurance overview and support for rotating equipment systems and documentation to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance
- Help ensure that all new and existing rotating equipment installations are completed in accordance with applicable standards
- Seek to attack underlying causes and eliminate reactive-natured work
Production Team Support:
As a PTSE intern, you will provide coordination within Refinery Production Areas through project management, problem solving, small project execution, threat identification and risk assessment, engineering support to operations and maintenance, and turnaround support. The goal of this internship is to help you develop technical skills in pressure/fixed equipment, rotating equipment, project management, and industry work processes. This role interfaces with Engineers, Operators, and Maintenance Personnel. Key Responsibilities may include:
- Assist in the design and implementation of expense projects and small capital projects related to Health, Safety, and Environmental threats, and reliability threats within a Production Area.
- Provide Engineering support for reactive maintenance and unplanned work, as required.
- Champion Management of Change (MOC) by helping with cross-discipline.
- Participate in both large and small-scale investigations focused on Health, Safety, Environmental, and Reliability Incidents.
- Provide Engineering support to the Turnaround Organization during the planning and scope development for upcoming turnarounds.
Pressure Equipment Integrity:
As a Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) engineering intern, you will work closely with other PEI engineers, corrosion engineers, unit inspectors and as well as be a participating member of the cross-functional production teams. The PEI group focuses on the integrity of all static equipment at the site. This includes, pressure vessels, piping systems and storage tanks/spheres. Your responsibilities may include:
- Provide technical assurance for pressure equipment to ensure compliance with code and company standards
- Perform relatable calculations ie, corrosion rate, remaining life, bolted joint stress, etc.
- Develop equipment repair plans
- Champion PEI driven Management of Change (MOC)
- Champion PEI driven Opportunity Proposal/Investment Proposal (OP/IP)
- Provide PEI engineering support for the different execution groups (Run and Maintain, Major Maintenance & Turnaround)
Basic Qualifications: - 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Pursuing a B.S in Mechanical Engineering
- Basic computer skills, MS Windows, MS office and MS Excel
- Basic computation and technical skills
- Time management skills
- Good communication skills, both written and oral

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship experience is a plus
- Proven leadership and/or participation in extracurricular activities preferred
- Other work experience not related to position/area of study will be taken into consideration
