POSITION OBJECTIVE

Reports to the Resort Manager. Maintain the cleanliness of the guestrooms, public areas and areas in the back of the house excluding kitchen areas. Supervises both the housekeeping and laundry departments to ensure they operate in a smooth and efficient manner. Control the upkeep of all furniture and fixtures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Motivate and train employees to develop good work habits, maximize productivity and quality while maintaining positive employee morale.
  • Interview, hire, orient and discipline employees.
  • Conduct inspections of all hotel areas.
  • Prepare departmental job descriptions for each job category.
  • Control, request and purchase all guest room and other supplies in order to maintain established par levels.
  • Keep records of linen inventory, uniforms and other applicable items.
  • Set up and maintain an ongoing training program for all job functions.
  • Meet with guests to handle complaints and requests.
  • Work closely with the Front Office and Engineering.
  • Maintain close contact with outside contractors.
  • Involved in the annual budget process.
  • Maintain goodwill, a sense of fairness and open-door policy towards employees.
  • Frequently tests new products and materials to find better ways to do the job.
  • Maintain all machinery used in the department.
  • Set up a preventative maintenance schedule to avoid breakdowns.
  • Stay in close contact with other department heads and management.
  • Stay in contact with professional housekeeping associations.
  • Create a positive guest experience.
  • Supervise Assistant Director of Housekeeping, Laundry Manager, Night Housekeeper and Night Cleaning Supervisor.
  • Indirectly supervise Floor Supervisors, Room Attendants, Laundry Attendants and House Attendants.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including day/night shifts, weekends and holidays

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Two years prior housekeeping experience at executive or assistance executive housekeeper level. Working knowledge of accounting, purchasing, sanitation, renovation, refurbishing, and training others.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel, a plus.

OTHER SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and listen.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry or otherwise move materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to walk through the resort, bend, stoop and reach.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The duties of this position are primarily performed in indoor climate conditions. A lot of movement and noise happening.
