POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Site Estimator to lead and manage the full bidding process for comprehensive civil site work packages. This includes but is not limited to: earthwork, underground utilities, storm drain, asphalt paving, concrete, and site electrical. The ideal candidate will be confident in bidding self-perform scopes (earthwork, storm drain, asphalt, concrete) and skilled at coordinating all remaining trades through subcontractors to deliver complete, competitive, and timely proposals.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

B&M Builders is a General Engineering Contractor Construction Company with Specialty Expertise in Asphalt, Concrete, ADA, and Mechanical Services. B&M is based in Sacramento California and has GEO market reach throughout the Greater Sacramento Region. We provide “No Fee” site assessments that will provide an up to date profile of property conditions, ADA compliance and mechanical systems functional performance.

OBJECTIVES

• Review civil plans, site conditions, and specifications to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for project bids.
• Partner with project managers and engineers to verify quantities, methods, and scope alignment before finalizing estimates.
• Build and maintain cost databases and unit pricing libraries to improve accuracy and consistency across estimates.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to identify cost efficiencies, resolve discrepancies, and support vendor selection.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess risks, validate assumptions, and inform estimation strategies.
• Leverage historical cost data and completed project insights to improve forecasting and refine future estimates.
• Deliver timely cost revisions in response to scope changes, design updates, or value engineering efforts.
• Ensure all estimates comply with local building codes, safety standards, and permitting requirements to prevent delays.

COMPETENCIES

• Delivers accurate takeoffs and estimates with minimal deviation from actual project costs.
• Reads and interprets civil drawings, specs, and site conditions with confidence and clarity.
• Communicates effectively with project teams, engineers, and vendors to align on cost and scope.
• Maintains up-to-date cost databases and unit pricing for consistent and reliable estimating.
• Reviews subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment.
• Identifies cost risks early and builds contingencies into estimates to support project planning.
• Adjusts quickly to scope or design changes with timely and accurate cost revisions.
• Applies knowledge of codes and permitting requirements to ensure all estimates meet regulations.
• Must be self-motivated and capable of delivering early, complete, and accurate bid packages

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience working for a site development contractor or GC specializing in civil scopes
• Familiarity with local subcontractor base and material suppliers
• Value engineering and proposal strategy experience
